I was still in bed, Bruce had just brought me a cup of coffee. "Guess who is here," he said. He heard a squeak and looked outside. There was Cali. He opened the door and she came right in. We are so happy to have our little traveling family complete again. She was very nervous and kept getting into hiding places. But, after an hour or so, she began to relax. She didn't seem very hungry, and not hurt. We will always wonder where she spent the last five days. Thank God she is back.
About five miles from the campground is the Lincoln Memorial Garden. This is a 100 acre, self-governing woodland and prairie garden owned by the city of Springfield. the garden was designed to reflect the idealized vision of the Midwestern woods and prairies. This would be what the land was like where Lincoln grew up in the three states he was raised in, Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois. We knew there were a series of Letterboxes placed here some years ago so we thought we would try to see if any were still there. We searched for three of the six. We did find #2.
One of the many council rings in the park. |
The tree that letterbox #2 was found under. |
