Bad, Bad Day

Saturday, June 1, 2019

The day started out great.  We had a nice breakfast, then went out to explore the area a bit.  This campground is on the original Route 66.  We drove along Route 66 for a bit, then went on into Springfield.

The Springfield Visitor's Center welcomed us with many suggestions and a lot of information.

The Visitor's Center is at the end of this building where Lincoln had an office.

Our next stop was the Old Capitol Building.  This is the building where Lincoln made his "House Divided" speech.  He spent many hours here as a member of the Illinois legislature and finally, lay in state before his burial.

We were told Lincoln laid out the pages of his "House Divided" speech on this table.
Representative Hall
The Stove Top Hat is the location Lincoln laid in state.

The entire capital and all the various offices were open and had many interesting displays.  We spent a good amount of time here.

It was hot, and we were thirsty.  There was the Buzz Bomb Brewery just on the next block.  Stopped in for a flight.  Each brewery is unique not only for their beers but their decor as well.  This one had really neat lighting and a mid-century lounge upstairs.

Now, the really, really bad part of our day.  We returned to the RV and all was fine.  Bruce opened the door and Cali shot out of it like a bullet.  We tried every trick we knew to catch her, but she just wouldn't come near us.  Hoping that she would eventually return we waited.  Then she just disappeared.   We were up most of the night looking and calling for her. Hoping she will return by morning.
