Last Day in the Danial Boone National Forest

After a leisurely morning, we drove the Route 39 dirt road, The Tunnel Ridge Road.  This is a dead end road, very dusty today, that leads to numerous trailheads.  It was a very hot day and we just didn't feel like much hiking.  We did walk a little way down one trail to view a tar kiln interpretive area.

Then on to the Kentucky Reptile Zoo. This was a pleasant surprise.  It is quite an operation they have there.  With a tour guide, we saw turtles, tortoises, large lizards and a multitude of snakes.  Many of them poisonous.  In fact, we were able to watch one of the fellows there milk Western Rattlers.  This venom was being sold to a pharmaceutical company to make a serum for dogs.  It was quite informative.

The truck was so dusty from our earlier trek that we went out in search of a car wash.  Found a DIY and gave it a rinse.  Stopped by a Dairy Queen for a quick bit and some ice cream then we just drove around in a different direction.  Another elephant.

Someone threw away a perfectly good giraffe.

Once back at the campground, we are getting packed up in preparation for leaving tomorrow morning to our next stop at Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
