Travel to Pocahauntas State Park

 Thursday, July 1,  2021

It is hard to believe it is July already.  Well, today we say goodbye to North Carolina for now and head back north to Virginia.  Another travel day.  We got packed up and ready to leave in no time and hit the road. It was only around 160 miles to the next campsite so we were a little worried about getting there too early.  Check-in is a late one, 4:00 pm. We forgot to plug Mobly (our hot spot) into the coach so we immediately stopped at a rest area two miles from our starting point to do that.  Figured we had time to kill so that worked out anyway.  Problem.  When we hook up the truck to tow, my job is to drop it into neutral, place the braking system, and check the lights.  All that went fine but at the rest stop, I asked Bruce if he had the truck keys.  He said no, I did.   Well, I should have, but I only had my set which we didn't use.  We looked all through the truck and the coach.  No keys.  We figured I must have dropped them or they would turn up when we could really take the time to look everywhere.  At least I had my set.  The next stop was to get gas.  We are now about 100 miles down the road.  My job when we get gas is to direct Bruce into the pump and then get the mileage and gallons to keep our records up to date.  I can't get those keys off my mind and while I was writing the milage down, I am thinking about what would I have done with them.  I knew I didn't have my purse with me and my pockets were empty.   All of a sudden I checked the only other place I put things, my bra.  Bingo, there were the keys.  I have no idea why I didn't notice them sooner, but at least they were safe.

We arrived safely at our next destination, Pochanutas State Park.  We have been here before, but this time we were unable to reserve a specific site.  We had to go find what was available.  I don't like that system.  There is a sense of panic about it.  But we did grab the first acceptable site and it turned out to be ok.  Just barely got set up before the beginning of a major storm.  It started raining just after we arrived and it rained all night.  A good argument for a Class A Motorcoach.  We were warm, dry, and comfortable all night.  The noise of the rain on the roof is like a lullaby.
