Today was a visit to Presque Isle State Park. This park is a peninsula that runs out into Lake Erie forming a bay on one side and the lake on the other. We drove the entire length and back first and on the second loop, we stopped at the Oliver Hazard Perry Monument.
While walking around, we noticed a snow-like appearance everywhere.
This is the seeds from the Cottonwood tree.
We passed by the neatest playground. All the play equipment was made of natural elements. The theory being that children need to touch, climb on and play with real things.
This was one of the many beaches along the lake side of the park.
Continuing on, we went to the North Pier. On our way there we passed a group of houseboats, complete with a Great Blue Heron on the roof of one of the houseboats. This area was called Horseshoe Pond and there are 24 privately owned houseboats.
This is the site of a working lighthouse that is not open to visitors. Of course, there were many fishermen there too. Across the way, we saw an unusual plant and three industrial stacks. Our curiosity got the best of us when the plant starting releasing a large amount of steam. We decided when we left the park we would try to find out what these sites were.
As we continued to drive the loop around the park we stopped at the Presque Isle Lighthouse, built in 1872. We were able to tour the house and climb the tower. There were 77 steps to the top.
This is what we were looking at across the Lake.
