Workhorse Rally, Hurricane Michael

Sunday, October 7 -  Friday, October 12, 2018

Arrived at Ocean Lakes Family Campground.  The biggest campground we have ever seen.  They have 859 campsites and 2,566 annual lease sites.  Just look at the map.

Our site, right on the ocean.

We were really busy for the rally.  Started off with a meet and greet Sunday after we registered.

On Monday we had a breakfast of donuts and coffee, then a seminar with Larry and Justin of Larry's Auto Clinic, Inc.  He is the local Workhorse authorized repair facility.  We had a good discussion and learn of several things we need to do to our coach.

Our next event was an all you can eat seafood buffet at The Original Benjamin's Calabash Seafood restaurant.

After dinner we went the the Carolina Opry and sae a really nice variety show.

Tuesday started out again with donuts and coffee.  Then we had our business meeting.  We were unable to have an official meeting last year because we did not have a quorum so it was great so many came this year.  Next year the meeting most likely will be in Tennessee.  Bruce has volunteered to check out the possibility of having 2020 at Cherry Hill near Washington.  The meeting went well, we have official officers and all necessary business was completed.

The afternoon was spent at the Ripley's Aquarium and dinner at the Liberty Brewery and Grill.

Wednesday was a free morning and afternoon.  We had a catered Southern BBQ Wednesday evening.  We lost some of our attendees because of Michael.  Everyone had to make the best decision for themselves.  We were under a Tropical Storm Watch.

We were supposed to leave Thursday morning but due to the Hurricane and trying to decide what was safest, we decided to turtle up and spend one more day here.  Driving to Charleston on Thursday would have meant driving over high bridges with 35 to 40 mph winds.  Not good in a great big box. Since we were never even close to being evacuated, this worked out very well.  It was really windy Tuesday and Wednesday, not from the Hurricane, but from a local front.  Thursday was quite windy but not as bad as predicted and we received very little rain.  It was a good decision to stay put.

Here are some other pictures of the campground and surrounding area.

A pipe clogged at high tide.  Now we are lakefront.

Pre-hurricane prep.
Angry ocean.
The sky after it all was over.
