Tonight was our third ghost tour. This was by far the best. It was a Graveyard Tour where we were actually able to go inside the oldest graveyard in Charleston. Our tour guide was really good at storytelling and he had his facts correct. So often the versions have a few holes in them or are just stories.
While waiting for our appointed time we strolled the streets of Charleston. Stopped at Henry's for cocktails and alligator.
We visited a few alleys to begin our tour. After hearing a few stories about the area we moved on to another alley, Philadelphia Alley, that historically was where"gentlemen" settled their insults with a duel. We heard the story of the whistling doctor, Joseph Ladd.
We entered the Circular Congregation Church's graveyard established in 1681. Eerie feeling walking around an old graveyard after dark. Several stories we heard were of a 16-year-old girl buried alive. they thought she had died but was most likely in a coma. The young girl dared by her friend to touch the leaning tombstone and was found dead with a head injury next to the grave. And the story of a mother who died of malaria a few days after her sons. All were buried in a mass grave but the boys were layers below her so she was digging to find them.
