Finally, the RV is on the Road, and Other Stuff

Monday, July 13, 2020

We are off to Wildnerness for two weeks.  Don't know how much Virginia is open, but I am sure it is better than Maryland.  We really need a change of scenery. It has been 13 months since we have had the rig out.

We have been working very hard getting the RV ready for this departure.  But other exciting things are happening.  We are having our deck updated with Trex on all the surfaces and our collapsing wall behind the hot tub being replaced.

The workmen showed up bright and early to finish our deck. We hung out until they were done so we could make the final payment and inspect the work, so we got a late start. Plus we have been playing hopscotch with vehicles keeping the road clear so we will be able to pull out.  The work on the deck was finished at about noon and it is a beauty.  Looking forward to using it again for bar-b-ques and partying.

After we made our final payment, we were off.  Or so we thought.  The workmen still had to load all the old wood and debris so we wanted to get going so they could park their truck in front of the house.  The foreman of the crew was such a sweetheart when we were having trouble getting the truck in neutral and getting the brake to work he wanted to help and kept assuring us they didn't need to move the truck closer.

We backed out so easily.  The street was wide open.  Hooked up the truck and it just wouldn't go into neutral.  Normally we have hitching up the truck down to a science but not today.  Never did figure out what went wrong, but after what seemed like forever we finally got the truck to roll.  Pulled around the corner and did our checks.  Finally on the road.

Traffic was great and the drive down was quick and easy.  Got to our site and had the perfect back in.  I got most of the inside set up and we realized the living room slide was hitting a bump on a tree and keeping it out of kilter of about an inch.  So much for the perfect backup.  I, of course, had to undo everything and bring in the slides so Bruce could move the rig a couple of inches.  He managed to do that pretty easily.  I set everything up again to find the living room slide will not go out more than a few inches at a time.  Finally discovered the WeeBoost cable fell and was creating problems. Of course, we had to de-winterize and found the water pump wasn't working so we couldn't empty the antifreeze we had in the onboard water tank.  That problem will be addressed another day.  With so much going on in the last few days, both of us were not at our best.  We were hot, tired, and just not our usual efficient selves.  Forgot to turn on the gas, forgot to turn on the hot water heater, then realized the gas wasn't on anyway.  Forgot to purge the gas lines, I could have turned on the fridge on the drive down because we had the generator running for the A/C but didn't think to do it, so we had to wait for it to cool down long after we were here.  Just little things that we normally do automatically.  We really needed to get out in the RV.
