Savannah, Georgia, Our Next Destination

Tuesday, October 10:  Arrived in Hardeeville, South Carolina at Camp Lake Jasper RV Park. Very nice campground.  The weather is very hot and humid.  It is not kind "shoulder" weather like we had the past two years.

Didn't see any.
Wednesday, October 11:  We got a nice early start today and drove into Savannah.  Started off with an all day ticket to ride the Old Savannah Trolley.  We wanted to schedule a ghost tour on the Trolley for tomorrow night and the agent was having so much trouble with her computer she finally gave up and comped out daytime trolley and only charged us for the ghost tour.  Lucky us.

We like to start out with a trolley tour when we get to a new place so we can get an idea of the things to do there.  This was a hop on, hop off type of trolley ride so after we did the whole loop we decided to hop off at the Moon River Brewing Company.  We had a 10 flight of beers and really good appetizers.  Bruce had his usual wings and I had Leek and Goat Cheese Rounds.  This brewery is located in one of the oldest buildings in Savannah and a genuinely haunted building.

We continued to tour around the city.  It is a beautiful city with squares all around.  Each square is a city park with it's own design and history.  I wish we weren't such a hobbling pair.  Between my foot and Bruce's back we could not do justice to this city.  It is such a great walking city.  Guess we have to come back when we are more mobile.

We ended our day with Smithwicks's and Welsh Rarebit at the Six Pence Pub, an authentic English Pub.

Thursday, October 12:  Our ghost tour was in the evening so we took it easy today.  Hiked around the Lake Jasper park.  I also added a few pictures that we took earlier in the week at the campground.  It had a lovely deck overlooking the lake and we caught a really nice sunset.

Off to Savannah again late in the afternoon.  We walked around City Market and visited some more squares.  We had margaritas and quesadillas at Tequila's Town Mexican Restaurant.

I really love to do ghost tours and was really looking forward to this one considering Savannah is supposed to be one of the most haunted cities in the United States.  But, it was a big disappointment.  First of all the trolley was not air conditioned and it was extremely hot and humid.  Also the entire tour was on the trolley.  I would have thought we would get off and explore places but this tour was completely on board with our guide telling stories and at occasional stops someone from a particular era would come on board and tell their story.  The performance was OK, just not what I consider a ghost tour.  Next time we will do a walking tour.  As an add-on we did get to go inside the Sorrel Weed House, which  is supposed to be haunted, but it was a large group and we didn't get to stay very long. There was also some historic discrepancies between the daytime trolley drivers stories and the ghost tour stories.

I seemed to have an accidental video of one of the characters telling her story and her voice on the video slows down and she appears to be floating.  Have to take my word for it or look at my phone because I can't figure out how to make it work here

Friday, October 13:  Today we are off to Beaufort, South Carolina.  This is a historic small town in South Carolina's lowcountry.  Bruce's Mom and Dad lived here at one time before Bruce was.  We walked along Bay Street and in the waterfront park. This is a great town for shoppers and eaters.

Afterwords we drove out to the sea islands.  Decided to have lunch at the Foolish Frog.  Good seafood platters and nice conversation with a local.

I have to throw in some Roadside Attractions.  We saw the elephants driving back and forth from Savannah. They were in Hardeeville.  The giant peanut was in Bluffton, SC.  It was outside a restaurant.  We didn't eat there but I did get some homemade peach ice cream that was to die for.

Saturday, October 14:  Days of chores.  Did some shopping at Walmart, Went to a couple of camping supply stores looking for CO detector.  Can't believe how RVers are ripped off.  Just put RV on the packaging and jack up the price.  The same unit for a house (model number the same, description the same, color of package different) at Walmart was $24.95, at the RV store $98.95.  Another interesting sign of the times.  We are sending postcards to the grand kids to show where we are so they can mark the maps we got them.  It is really hard to find a mailbox.  It is not easy to even find the post office in a lot of these places, and if you do, there is no guarantee that they will have a mailbox outside.
